Deckhand & Certified General Purpose Hand
Capricorn Coastal Freight
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in the Seaman position with Capricorn Coastal Freight. As a certified General Purpose Hand based in Brisbane holding an AMSA Certificate of Safety Training and a Certificate III in Maritime Operations, I am eager to contribute my coastal vessel experience and practical deck skills to your freight operations.
During my current role as a Junior Deckhand with Coral Coastline Shipping, I carry out mooring, unmooring, and line-handling duties during coastal terminal berthing maneuvers. My regular deck work includes maintaining deck machinery, winches, and cargo securing gear through systematic greasing and preventative care, as well as performing assigned navigational lookout duties following bridge resource management procedures. I also assist the Chief Officer with pre-departure safety checks, ballast tank sounding, and hatch cover securing.
My background with Moreton Passage Tug & Barge gave me additional experience in high-tempo port environments, where I assisted deck crew with towline hookups, chafing gear placement, and barge tie-ups across the Port of Brisbane. Furthermore, I regularly operated high-pressure washdown units and performed needle-scaling and marine coating application. This hands-on maintenance focus was reinforced during the coastal workboat biennial drydock refit, during which I assisted shipyard engineers and deck crew with slipway preparation, hull washing, and safety equipment locker overhauls.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss how my seamanship training, commitment to safe deck operations, and vessel maintenance experience align with Capricorn Coastal Freight. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Lachlan Campbell
