Raymond Vance
Adjunct Professor of History and Political Science
Kingsbridge College
Dear Members of the Search Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the Adjunct Professor position in the Department of History at Kingsbridge College. With a doctoral background in American History from Columbia University and continuous experience instructing undergraduate cohorts across New York, I am eager to contribute to your department's introductory surveys and seminar offerings in modern political history.
In my current appointment as Adjunct Professor of History at Empire Metro College, I deliver lecture and seminar courses in modern American political history and public policy to over 140 students per semester. To foster rigorous analytical habits, I design and update hybrid syllabi that center weekly discussion modules on primary-source archival materials, while assessing student research proposals and capstone papers using structured rubrics. Furthermore, I maintain dedicated weekly office hours to guide students in historical methodology and prepare them for graduate study.
My instructional practice also emphasizes curricular accessibility and sustained engagement across diverse learning environments. At Hudson Valley Academic Institute, I transitioned instructional materials to the institutional learning management system while maintaining 94% student retention across enrolled sections. Additionally, as co-developer of the Open Educational Resources Urban History Archive, I helped integrate an open-access reader of annotated legislative charters and civic petitions into introductory courses, eliminating commercial textbook costs for more than 500 undergraduate students.
I welcome the opportunity to bring my background in hybrid course design, archival pedagogy, and student mentorship to the students and faculty of Kingsbridge College. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Raymond Vance
