Dr Alistair Vance
Professor of Modern History | Departmental Chair | Higher Education Pedagogist
Wycliffe College of Higher Education
Dear Members of the Academic Search Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the College Professor appointment at Wycliffe College of Higher Education. With an established background in departmental leadership, modern historical research, and undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum governance, I welcome the opportunity to contribute to Wycliffe's commitment to rigorous academic standards and pedagogical development.
In my current role as Professor of Modern History and Departmental Chair at Irwell Metropolitan University, I direct the undergraduate and postgraduate history curriculum, overseeing module design, validation, and assessment moderation for over 350 students annually. My focus on pedagogical enhancement is reflected in my earlier appointment as Associate Professor at the same institution, where I implemented active-learning seminar frameworks that raised student satisfaction scores across core modules by 18 percent over three academic cycles. Holding Senior Fellowship with Advance HE, I ensure that departmental programmes maintain academic integrity and quality assurance across all levels of study.
Alongside curriculum direction, I lead the Departmental Research Committee at Irwell Metropolitan University, where I have secured 680,000 GBP in competitive research council grant funding across three collaborative research initiatives. Furthermore, I have supervised seven doctoral researchers to completion, mentored twelve early-career lecturers in pedagogical practice and grant writing, and served as external examiner for honours degree programmes across two partner institutions. These experiences in institutional governance and academic leadership align directly with Wycliffe's priorities for research development and collegiate mentorship.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my departmental governance, teaching practice, and research background can support the academic mission of Wycliffe College of Higher Education. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Alistair Vance
