Rowan Ellis
Entry-level Software Engineer
Crestline Digital
Dear Hiring Team,
I am writing to express my interest in the Entry-level Software Engineer position at Crestline Digital. As a Computer Science student at the University of British Columbia with internship experience building backend services and automated test suites, I am eager to contribute to your engineering team's web applications and data services.
During my software engineering internship at Kestrel Analytics, I developed and maintained RESTful API endpoints using Node.js and Express to support reporting workflows. I also refactored database queries using Prisma ORM with PostgreSQL, which reduced average endpoint latency by 18%, and expanded backend automated test suites with Jest and Supertest to increase test coverage from 68% to 84%. Through participating in biweekly agile sprints and collaborative code reviews, I developed strong habits around code quality and team communication.
In addition to my industry internship, my project work has reinforced my ability to deliver functional software end to end. For the TransitPulse Vancouver project, I built an asynchronous data polling service with Python and FastAPI against regional open transit APIs, paired it with a TypeScript and React interface, and containerized the application using Docker with automated GitHub Actions workflows. These experiences have given me practical exposure to the tools and engineering practices needed to contribute effectively to Crestline Digital's development pipeline.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I welcome the opportunity to discuss how my background in full-stack development, automated testing, and relational databases aligns with your team's needs.
Sincerely,
Rowan Ellis
