Morgan Finch
Senior Secondary School Teacher & Lead English Specialist
Stannington Academy
Dear Hiring Panel,
I am writing to express my interest in the High School Teacher role at Stannington Academy. Having taught English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4 within secondary schools in Manchester, I welcome the opportunity to bring my experience in structured classroom delivery, curriculum planning, and GCSE preparation to your English department.
In my current position as Lead Teacher of English at Whiston Grange Academy, I lead Key Stage 4 English curriculum delivery across five mixed-ability classes, supporting an average GCSE cohort pass rate of 82% in English Language and Literature. To ensure students requiring additional support remain on track, I designed and implemented targeted reading intervention programmes for Year 10 pupils performing below expected attainment thresholds. This background aligns directly with your requirement for rigorous, inclusive secondary English teaching that supports sustained progress across all ability levels.
Alongside classroom practice, I have contributed substantially to inter-school assessment consistency. I coordinate moderation procedures across three trust partner schools to align assessment standards with national examination criteria. Furthermore, through the Multi-Academy Trust Writing Assessment Framework, I standardised essay-marking criteria and created exemplars used by seven secondary English departments across Greater Manchester, in addition to delivering training on formative marking techniques for 35 secondary educators.
I look forward to discussing how my classroom leadership, assessment experience, and pastoral commitment can support the pupils and staff at Stannington Academy. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Morgan Finch
