Gemma Barlow
Junior Machinist
Pennine Precision Tooling Ltd
Dear Hiring Team,
I am writing to express my interest in the Machinist role at Pennine Precision Tooling Ltd. Having completed my Level 3 Apprenticeship in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering and developed hands-on machining skills within precision subcontract workshops, I am eager to contribute to your production team and maintain the exacting component standards required by your manufacturing operations.
In my current role as a Junior Machinist at Irwell Precision Engineering Ltd, I set up and operate 3-axis CNC vertical milling centres equipped with Fanuc controls. I regularly machine small-batch components in steel and aluminium to tolerances within ±0.02 mm, relying on engineering blueprints, CAD/CAM setup sheets, and job routing cards to establish datum points and enter accurate tool offsets. Additionally, I perform routine in-process dimension checks with micrometers, vernier calipers, dial test indicators, and bore gauges to maintain tight dimensional adherence across every production run.
Alongside CNC milling, my apprenticeship training provided a solid grounding in manual turning on centre lathes and milling on Bridgeport knee mills, which I apply to fabricate one-off jigs and repair parts. I also carry out regular machine maintenance, including coolant monitoring and lubrication, and hold an IOSH Working Safely certification. I am confident that my methodical inspection habits and practical machining background align well with the expectations of your workshop.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my workshop background and technical capabilities can support Pennine Precision Tooling Ltd.
Yours sincerely,
Gemma Barlow
