Callum MacLeod
Preschool Teacher | Early Years Specialist
Meadowfield Early Learning Centre
Dear Hiring Committee,
I am writing to express my keen interest in the Preschool Teacher position at Meadowfield Early Learning Centre. With a solid foundation in delivering child-centred, play-based early education across Edinburgh nursery settings, I am dedicated to implementing the Curriculum for Excellence Early Level and Realising the Ambition national practice guidance. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to your setting by fostering rich, inclusive learning experiences for your preschool children.
In my current position as Preschool Teacher at Pentland View Early Learning Centre, I lead daily early learning provision for 28 preschool children aged 3 to 5, embedding child-led inquiry and responsive floorbook planning into our daily rhythm. To ensure every child's progress is visible and celebrated, I maintain observational documentation that keeps individual learning journeys updated weekly for families. Furthermore, I regularly coordinate with local authority speech and language therapists and educational psychologists to implement individualised support plans for children with additional support needs, ensuring our playroom remains fully accessible and supportive.
During my time at Stanebridge Nursery & Kindergarten, I delivered daily core learning experiences focusing on early numeracy, phonological awareness, and expressive arts for 24 preschool children. While there, I designed and launched an outdoor forest-kindergarten initiative in adjacent parklands, increasing weekly outdoor activity time by 6 hours and supporting active exploration in natural spaces. I also prepared summative transition profiles to facilitate smooth progression into primary school and organised termly family engagement sessions to maintain strong home-nursery continuity.
I am eager to bring my experience in child-led learning, multi-agency collaboration, and outdoor education to the children, colleagues, and families at Meadowfield Early Learning Centre. Thank you very much for considering my application, and I look forward to discussing how my skills and background align with the goals of your early learning team.
Yours sincerely,
Callum MacLeod
