I am writing to express my interest in the English Teacher position at Roerdael Lyceum. As a fully certified tweedegraads English teacher with experience instructing lower-secondary vmbo-tl and havo pupils, I am eager to contribute to your modern foreign languages department and support your pupils in developing communicative fluency and confidence.
In my current role at Stroomdal Lyceum, I deliver communicative English language lessons to six classes of vmbo-tl and havo students, instructing approximately 160 pupils weekly. My daily practice focuses on designing differentiated lesson sequences that combine task-based learning, reading circles, and digital formative quizzes. Working with diverse learner profiles, I administer standardized assessments, document pupil progress in the Magister administration system, and collaborate with departmental colleagues to align grading rubrics and cross-curricular reading initiatives.
To foster sustained engagement with the language, I also coordinated an Extensive Reading Circle Initiative, curating a leveled library of 45 contemporary young adult readers and designing biweekly guided discussion prompts. Over two terms, this structured approach supported noticeable gains in vocabulary retention and reading engagement among havo-2 pupils. Combined with my prior LIO-stage teaching internship at Lichtstad College, where I structured interactive speaking workshops to raise target-language production in small groups, this experience has reinforced my commitment to accessible, student-centered language teaching.
