In my current position as a Senior Staff Nurse in the 16-bed interdisciplinary ICU at Rhein-Klinikum Ehrenfeld, I provide bedside care for up to 3 ventilated and hemodynamically unstable patients per shift. My responsibilities include operating invasive mechanical ventilators, running continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machines, managing arterial lines, and titrating vasoactive infusions and analgesics according to medical directives. This daily clinical experience has honed my vigilance in recognizing subtle signs of physiological deterioration and delivering rapid, calm interventions.
In addition to bedside care, I actively support unit education and quality initiatives. During the Central Venous Catheter Care Optimization Project, I collaborated with senior nursing staff and infection control specialists to standardize central line bundle insertion and dressing protocols, contributing to a measurable decline in catheter-related bloodstream infections over a twelve-month observation cycle. As part of this initiative, I developed and delivered modular training sessions on aseptic handling techniques for 24 ward nurses, complementing my regular duties as a clinical preceptor for trainees and new team members.
