Medical Laboratory Technician | Specimen Processing & Diagnostic Analytics
Forthview Pathology Laboratories
Dear Hiring Team,
I am writing to express my interest in the Medical Lab Technician position at Forthview Pathology Laboratories. Having reviewed the laboratory requirements regarding high-throughput sample triage and automated diagnostic testing, I am keen to bring my experience in pre-analytical accessioning, routine haematology operations, and quality standard compliance to your diagnostic services.
In my current role as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Pentland Diagnostic Laboratories, I process and accession up to 250 blood, urine, and swab specimens daily, verifying patient identification details and tracking samples within the Laboratory Information Management System. My day-to-day responsibilities include operating and calibrating automated haematology analysers and clinical chemistry platforms, running internal quality controls, resolving baseline calibration flags, and preparing chemical reagents in compliance with COSHH regulations and standard operating procedures. This experience has reinforced my commitment to strict ISO 15189 compliance and prompt escalation of abnormal findings.
Additionally, my prior placement at Lothian Health Analytics Consortium gave me direct experience in pre-analytical triage, centrifugation, aliquoting, and archiving more than 1,000 histology blocks and cytology slides with complete traceability. Complemented by my BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from Edinburgh Napier University, where my project evaluated manual and automated blood smear staining across 120 trial smears, I have developed methodical bench technique and a rigorous approach to analytical consistency.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my specimen handling background, familiarity with automated platforms, and adherence to quality controls align with the technical needs of Forthview Pathology Laboratories. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Rowan MacLeod
