Marc Mercier
Undergraduate Student in Mathematics and Computer Science
Geneva Academic Excellence Foundation
Dear Members of the Scholarship Selection Committee,
I am writing to express my dedicated interest in the Academic Merit Scholarship awarded by the Geneva Academic Excellence Foundation. As an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Geneva, my academic objective is to build rigorous foundations in theoretical mathematics while developing robust computational methodologies to address complex quantitative problems.
My academic trajectory reflects a continuous commitment to analytical precision and applied research. During my summer research internship at the Helvetic Data Research Institute, I collaborated with doctoral researchers to implement automated data preparation pipelines in Python and benchmarked numerical interpolation algorithms against baseline meteorological records. Complementing this experience, I developed a graph algorithm visualization tool in C++ to analyze real-time algorithmic complexity, and conducted multivariate regression studies on alpine environmental datasets using R. These projects deepened my practical competence in algorithm design, scientific programming, and statistical modeling.
Alongside coursework and technical projects, I value sharing academic knowledge through community engagement. Through the Léman Student Science Initiative, I provide weekly tutoring in calculus and linear algebra to secondary students preparing for their maturity examinations, while also helping coordinate student-led STEM presentation workshops. This teaching role has strengthened my communication of abstract mathematical principles and reinforced my belief in collaborative academic inquiry.
Receiving the Academic Merit Scholarship would significantly advance my academic goals by supporting course-related research materials and participation in undergraduate numerical analysis workshops. Furthermore, it will allow me to expand my mentorship contributions within the university and local student communities. I am grateful for the selection committee's consideration of my application.
Sincerely,
Marc Mercier
