Rowan Ellis
Visual Artist & Mixed-Media Installation Specialist
Halcyon Arts Trust
Dear Selection Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the Visual Artist position at the Halcyon Arts Trust. With a studio practice focused on mixed-media painting, sculptural assemblages, and site-specific spatial installations, I have developed extensive experience translating conceptual inquiries into durable, gallery-ready artworks. The Trust's commitment to thoughtful public engagement and material exploration aligns closely with my dedication to sustainable fabrication and community-oriented exhibition design.
Throughout my tenure as Lead Studio Artist and Project Fabricator at Atelier Chroma Works, I have directed fabrication schedules, material sourcing, and structural rigging across 14 commercial and independent exhibition projects. In this role, I designed and constructed large-format mixed-media installations combining reclaimed architectural timber, cast bio-resins, and natural textile dyes. Additionally, I implemented studio-wide non-toxic solvent alternatives and sustainable pigment extraction methods that reduced synthetic chemical disposal by 65%, while collaborating directly with institutional curators, lighting designers, and art handlers to safely install fragile multi-component works.
My broader practice also encompasses large-scale spatial installations and civic engagement, exemplified by the Resonant Canopy Installation. For this public cultural center atrium project, I created a suspended 30-foot spatial installation composed of repurposed maple, hand-dyed linen, and acoustic felt, followed by tactile engagement workshops and walk-throughs for more than 850 visitors. Complementing this fabrication experience, my earlier work as an Assistant Preparator at Kitecrest Contemporary Arts grounded my technical approach in museum conservation standards, custom crating, and condition reporting.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss how my studio background, fabrication capabilities, and commitment to sustainable materials can contribute to the upcoming exhibitions at the Halcyon Arts Trust. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Rowan Ellis
